Lecturer in South-East Asia Geology

Starting Salary is £42,126 per annum inclusive of London Allowance 1*
*This is the expected starting salary for this post however appointment at a higher point may be made for candidates who demonstrate exceptional skills and experience relevant to the role.

Applications are invited for the post of Lecturer in the Department of Earth Sciences, Royal Holloway University of London, to commence no later than 1 July 2018.

Royal Holloway Earth Sciences is ranked in the top ten of UK geoscience departments for both research and student experience. We are seeking to appoint a geologist with PhD qualification who will take on a major role in the management and development of the SE Asia Research Group at Royal Holloway and who will contribute to research, teaching and administration in the Earth Sciences department.

The successful candidate will:

  • deliver and develop high-quality and effective classroom, on-line and field-based teaching at undergraduate and MSc level in general geology, regional geology, stratigraphy, and/or sedimentology.
  • pursue research of international quality that enhances, complements and/or extends current activities of the South-East Asia Research Group at Royal Holloway.
  • provide academic leadership in the future development of the South-East Asia Research Group.
  • establish an externally-funded research programme as part of the South-East Asia Research Group with the aim of generating REF 4* research output.
  • have a strong record of field-based research in South-East Asia with experience in working with government and academic partners and organisation of field trips.

The successful candidate will have evidence of successful teaching and research, and liaison with international academic and industry partners, as well as experience of running a research laboratory in sedimentary analysis and analytical equipment (for example SEM, CL, microprobe, Raman).

This is a full time and permanent post and the successful candidate should be in post on 1 July 2018 ready for teaching in the 2018/19 academic year.
