Starting earliest on May 15st, 2008, the Senckenberg Research Institute is looking to fill a

0.5 BAT IIa position for 3 years

We are seeking a person with a master or diploma in meteorology or a similar discipline from geosciences. The candidate is part of the interdisciplinary DFG research unit (DFG-Forschergruppe) "Understanding Cenozoic Climate Cooling", which focuses on the Late Miocene climate. He/she is responsible for palaeoclimate modelling sensitivity experiments. For this purpose, an intermediate complexity and a complex global atmosphere general circulation model are used. The sensitivity simulations focus on the role of mountain uplift, on palaeogeographic changes and particularly on the role of the palaeovegetation and vegetation changes in the Late Miocene.

The candidate needs to have knowledge about atmospheric sciences, numerical climate modelling and physical climatology. Programming skills (Fortran90, Linux shell-scripts) are required and expected. Due to the multidisciplinary character of the research project, the candidate needs interest in an interdisciplinary collaboration with the other members of the research unit. A geological-palaeontological background is not required but of advantage.

The position is salaried at the governmental scale 0.5 BAT BL IIa for a term of 3 years.

The Senckenberg Research Institute supports equal opportunity of men and women and therefore strongly invites women to apply.

Equally qualified severely handicapped applicants will be given preference.

The closing date for applications with the usual documentation is April 30th, 2008.
