Shell Chair in Petroleum GeosciencesThe Oil and Gas Research Center, Sultan Qaboos University, Sultanate of OmanThe Oil and Gas Research Center at Sultan Qaboos University is committed to remain at the leading edge of petroleum research in the GCC countries. The long-term prospects for the development of the hydrocarbon resources in Oman depend upon research and technology development activities. In particular, research in the area of reservoir characterization and enhanced oil recovery (EOR) plays an important role in increasing recoverable reserves and extending field production life. As a continuation of the successful collaboration with the University developed through the Joint Virtual Reality Center for Carbonate Studies and the Oil and Gas Research Centre, Shell Development Oman has agreed to continue funding a Chair in Petroleum Geosciences at the University to support the significant expansion of activities in the Oil and Gas Center. We are seeking a professorial appointment to play a leading role in developing an internationally recognized research program in Petroleum Geosciences. The Chair is expected to establish international research collaboration with both University partners of choice as well as industry partners. It is envisaged that the Chair will build and lead a team of MSc students as well as post doctoral researchers and PhD students in the execution of the agreed program. The position at the Shell Chair will be initially for a period of three years extendable for more years. The Chair reports to the Director of Oil and Gas Research Center and Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Postgraduate Studies and Research in SQU. Significant interactions and research collaboration with both Shell Technology Oman and with Petroleum Development Oman (PDO) staff active in (enhanced) oil recovery projects are expected. Applicants from petroleum geosciences disciplines with impressive academic leadership skills and experience are invited to apply for the post. Applicants are expected to have a high-quality research track record supplemented by relevant experience in the Oil and Gas Industry and a passion for teaching. The topic areas of particular interest include characterization and modeling of hydrocarbon reservoirs at the interface of (petroleum) engineering and geosciences. The candidates will be expected to submit a program proposal including resource requirements. In addition to the academic qualification, the candidate should have demonstrated capability and experience in building interpersonal relationships and dealing with diverse teams. An attractive package including tax-free salary, housing allowance and other benefits will be offered at professorial range.
