Research Fellow in Geology/Geochemistry (Level A/B)

Applications are invited for appointment to this position, which will be offered on a fixed term full-time basis for a period of two years, with the successful appointee being expected to take up duty between July - August 2008.
The Centre is funded jointly by the Australian Research Council, University of Tasmania, AMIRA International, State Government of Tasmania, minerals industry partners, CSIRO, Minerals Council of Australia and other participating Universities. Over the past 15 years CODES has become a world leader in research on the geology and geochemistry of mineral deposits. The Centre currently employs 45 academic and 7 general staff and has a large group of postgraduate students.
We are seeking an outstanding geoscientist to join our team on an industry funded project to research innovative ways of targeting VHMS mineralisation in the Cambrian Mount Read Volcanics of Western Tasmania. The position involves working closely with industry geologists from both mine-based and regional exploration teams to improve understanding of controls on ore deposition and to develop and apply new vectors to mineralisation.
The successful applicant will have a PhD in geology/geochemistry at the time of appointment and demonstrated expertise in petrology, lithogeochemistry, geological mapping, drill core logging and the interpretation of complex geological terrains. The successful applicant will be expected to participate in field work in remote areas, will be based on the Rosebery mine site for periods of up to four weeks at a time, and will also contribute to the supervision of postgraduate students associated with the project.
Depending on individual qualifications and experience an appointment will be made at Academic Level A or B. Appointment at Academic Level A will have a total remuneration package of up to $73,648 per annum (comprising salary within the range $58,831 - $62,947 plus 17% superannuation). Appointment at Academic Level B will have a total remuneration package of up to $91,206 per annum (comprising salary within the range $66,113 - $77,954 plus 17% superannuation). There is also the option of an additional 3% salary loading in exchange for 14% instead of 17% superannuation.
