Postdoctoral researcher position in geochemistry
applied to ore deposits

The geochemistry research group in Trinity College Dublin, Ireland (led by Professor Balz Kamber, Chair of Mineralogy and Geology) seeks applicants for a 2-year post-doctoral position to conduct research in a new ERA-MIN 2 research project called Tracing Gold-Copper-Zinc with advanced microanalysis " Gold Insight ". ERA-NET Cofund on Raw Materials (ERA-MIN 2) is a public-public partnership funded under Horizon 2020. The proposed research will contribute to the challenge of securing primary resources by developing innovative techniques for exploration.

The successful candidate is expected to conduct original research in collaboration with our partners within the international consortium at the Swedish Museum of Natural History in Stockholm and Luleň University of Technology, Sweden. Other duties will include the co-supervision of PhD and MSc students in the group working on related raw material topics, as well as the development of advanced micro-analytical techniques.

This appointment is for 2 years at the salary of 42,603 euros (year 1). The anticipated start date is between 1st of April and 1st of May 2018. Applicants must have at least 2 years of postdoctoral experience in the field of mineralogy and geochemistry applied to ore deposits, a strong publication record, and a demonstrated ability to conduct international scientific collaborations. A degree in economic geology is essential as is hands-on micro-analytical expertise with either SEM-EDS and/or LA-ICP-MS. The level of skills needs to be demonstrated in the application letter. Additional experience in ore geology and field work or a familiarity with SIMS analysis would be seen as beneficial to the project. Knowledge of Phanerozoic and Precambrian geology, various ore systems, as well as gangue and ore mineralogy would also be highly regarded.
