Sequence Stratigrapher Postdoc Position at
the Bureau of Economic Geology
The Jackson School of Geosciences (JSG), based in Austin, Texas, is one of the world's leading geological research institutes, combining a strong tradition of basic research with a robust program of applied research and industry collaborations, creating a unique opportunity for career development in a multinational work environment. The JSG unites one of the largest and most respected academic departments of geological sciences with two world-renowned research units-the Institute for Geophysics and the Bureau of Economic Geology.
An established research program within the Bureau of Economic Geology is seeking a postdoctoral candidate specializing in sequence stratigraphy. At the Bureau, sequence stratigraphy is interpreted on both the regional and field scale, onshore and offshore Texas, for the State of Texas Advanced Resource Recovery (STARR) project. The successful postdoctoral candidate will be required to conduct sequence stratigraphic interpretations of clastic and carbonate rocks, develop stratigraphic forward modeling, prepare technical reports and presentations, and liaise with industry partners.
Candidates should have a Ph.D. degree in geology, with a strong understanding of sequence stratigraphy. Familiarity with seismic and mapping interpretation software is desirable. We are particularly interested in candidates with strengths in one or more of the following: sequence stratigraphy, sedimentology, reservoir characterization, and stratigraphic modeling. Candidates are encouraged to publish peer-reviewed scientific articles and to participate in national and international scientific forums.
The Bureau of Economic Geology offers an excellent work environment, with challenges and possibilities for professional development and advancement.
