To develop and perform engineering and/or scientific research requiring special qualifications or attainment, with wide latitude for independent action and decision. Work with the laboratory director to operate, maintain, and oversee the UT Pressure Core Center (UT PCC). The UT PCC is a refrigerated laboratory facility used for the experimental analysis of methane hydrates at low temperature and high pressure. Perform disassembly, cleaning, and reassembly of high-pressure mechanical systems. These jobs require significant mechanical skills. A working knowledge of high-pressure seals, including their selection and installation is desired.

Receive and store pressure core, oversee transport into UT PCC, and prepare cores for manipulation. Assist the Laboratory Director and researchers to extract cores from storage vessels, sub-sample cores, and perform experiments. Operate, maintain, and respond to laboratory environmental monitoring systems. Work with the laboratory director to facilitate health and safety standards, standard operating procedures, and user training for all Flemings Group laboratories. Assist in the management of Flemings group laboratories including performing or contracting maintenance as needed. Build experimental components, calibrate sensors, and DAQ systems. Perform occasional refinement of experimental designs as weaknesses or defects arise. Guide students on lab experiments related to their thesis work. Collaborate with internal and external researchers, students, and visitors. Other related functions as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Master's degree and two years of related experience, or bachelor's degree and four years of related experience. Thorough knowledge of special equipment used in the field of research.

Preferred Qualifications

Education and experience higher than the required field.

Salary Range: $42,228 + depending on qualifications
