The Chair for Geothermal Science and Technology of the Department for Materials- and Geosciences at the Technische Universität Darmstadt invites applications for the position of a post-doctoral research fellow in the Institute for Applied Geosciences. The position of a

Post-Doctoral Research Fellow

(reference no. 55)

is initially limited to a 2 year lasting contract.

We are searching for a post-doctoral candidate with a focus of his/her research in modeling of mass and heat transport processes of complex hydrogeological and geothermal problems. The candidate should have a broad knowledge in the most common used modeling software (e.g. FeFlow 5.4, Mudflow, etc.). Own research in the field of mass and heat transport or in affiliated fields of interest is expected. The following fields of interest are of special interest:

  • Linking of mass flow and heat transport processes
  • Modeling of closed and open geothermal systems (IFM Modulus)
  • Consideration of temperature depending parameters (e.g. density, viscosity, thermal conductivity)
  • Modeling of density depending mass flows and other anisotropies (fault and joint systems)
  • Integration of model data from GOCAD
  • Modeling of complex hydrogeological structures

It is expected that the candidate is also responsible for the scientific and technical support for the necessary soft- and hardware used in the working group. Furthermore we assume that the candidate will participate in the lecturing and trainee program of the Geothermal Science and Technology group. Knowledge and/or the willingness of incorporation in 3D-modeling software (GOCAD) are desired.

A PhD in geoscience, geo-engineering, physics or computer science is a precondition.

The Technische Universität Darmstadt intends to increase the number of female faculty members and encourages female candidates to apply. In case of equal qualifications severely disabled applicants will be given preference. Salary is according to the TV-H (public service scale of Hesse). In principle, part-time employment is possible.

Please send by 15th March 2010 your written application including the usual documents (CV, list of publications and copies of 3 relevant publications, scientific career records, copies of certificates) to the Technische Universität Darmstadt, Dekan des Fachbereich 11 Material und Geowissenschaften, Petersenstr. 23, 64287 Darmstadt, Germany, by mentioning the reference number 55.
