![]() Research Associate or Post-Doctoral Fellow with expertise in Porphyry Copper DepositsA Research Associate or Post-Doctoral Fellow with expertise in Porphyry Copper Deposits is sought to play a leadership role in contributing and coordinating multidisciplinary research at a world class porphyry Cu deposit. The project is sponsored by the Canadian Mining Innovation Council (CMIC) to characterize the "footprints" of porphyry Cu ore-systems and to establish exploration vectors for this important mineral deposit type. The goal is to develop state-of-the-art integrated exploration strategies that are applicable over a range of scales. This project, once completed, will establish the candidate as a global leader in this research field. The project's first phase requires the acquisition of empirical data to build a "footprint" matrix of geological, surficial, lithogeochemical, mineralogical, petrophysical, and geophysical models of the Highland Valley porphyry Cu-Mo system near Kamloops, British Columbia. The researcher will be employed by MDRU, the Mineral Deposit Research Unit at The University of British Columbia, but will spend considerable time on site as an embedded researcher with direct connections to the operations of the Teck Resources exploration crew. The researcher will interact with and guide the research activities of graduate students and geoscientists from numerous universities, mineral exploration and service companies. This is a unique opportunity to become involved in the largest collaboration between the mineral exploration industry and academic-government researchers ever developed in Canada. Applicants should hold a PhD degree, have excellent oral and written communication skills, and be able to work effectively in both academic and industry environments. Level of appointment (Post-Doctoral Fellow or Research Associate) and salary will be commensurate with experience. The Research Associate must have appropriate experience in field geology and geochemistry or geophysics applicable to evaluating porphyry Cu or other hydrothermal ore systems. Applications, including cover letter, CV, copies of relevant publications, and the names and e-mail addresses of three references should be sent to Craig Hart (chart@eos.ubc.ca) or Peter Hollings (pnhollin@lakeheadu.ca). More information about CMIC can be found at www.cmic-ccim.org. Applications will be screened upon receipt and accepted until the position is filled. UBC hires on the basis of merit and is committed to employment equity. UBC is strongly committed to diversity within its community and especially welcomes expressions of interest from visible minority group members, women, Aboriginal persons, persons with disabilities, persons of any sexual orientation or gender identity, and others who may contribute to the further diversification of ideas. However, Canadians and Permanent Residents of Canada will be given priority. |
