Postdoctoral Research Fellow - Hydrogeology Group/Antamina Waste Rock Weathering Study
The Department of Earth, Ocean and Atmospheric Sciences at the University of British Columbia invites applications for a Post-doctoral Fellow or Research Associate in the field of contaminant hydrogeology or geochemistry. The principal tasks will be to aid in the interpretation of a comprehensive data set of fluid flow, aqueous and solid phase geochemistry, temperature and gas composition collected over 10 years at a mine site in Peru. The successful candidate will interpret and integrate this data, in part using reactive transport modeling, and assist a group of researchers and graduate students in the organization and authorship of papers for publication in peer-reviewed journal. The extensive dataset provides an opportunity to author many publications. There is an opportunity to contribute to other projects in the hydrogeology group.
Minimum Requirements: A Ph.D. in the field of contaminant hydrogeology, geochemistry, or related, and a record of research competence demonstrated by sustained publication in the peer-reviewed international scientific literature is required. Strong critical thinking, analytical and/or mathematical skills and experience in numerical modeling are required. The ideal candidate will be independent, self-motivated, have good oral and written communication skills, be well organized and be a team player. A one-year appointment will begin as soon as a suitable candidate has been identified; the appointment can be extended for one or more years. Salary is dependent upon educational level and experience; the minimum salary is $50,000.00 CAD per annum + benefits.
Applications, including a CV, copies of two relevant publications, and the names, e-mails, and phone numbers of three referees should be sent to Roger Beckie, Department of Earth, Ocean and Atmospheric Sciences, The University of British Columbia, 2207 Main Mall, Vancouver, BC, V6T 1Z4 (Phone: 604-822-6462; fax: 604-822-6088; e-mail: firstname.lastname@example.org).
