About Geosciences

Geosciences is one the renowned programmes in Faculty of Science. Since its inception in 2011, it can boast of its world class teaching and research. The geosciences people are very much multicultural having 100% foreign faculties. The Programme offers range of degrees in B.Sc Geology, M.Sc Petroleum Geoscience (coursework), M.Sc (research) and PhD in Geosciences. Geoscience itself is adequately equipped with polarizing microscopes, Scanning Electronic Microscopes with Energy Dispersive Spectrometers, X-ray Fluorescence Analyser, and Digital Point Counting System, which is attached to a polarizing Microscope, Seismograph, Resistivity Meter and Gamma Detector, Luminescence Dating Spectrometer, including a fully equipped laboratory for sample processing and preparation of rock thin sections and a wet chemistry lab. There is also the inclusion of several industrial standard software such as Petrel, IP, Kingdom Suite, MinPet, Roxar, Paradigm etc. There are plenty of scopes to develop careers in Geosciences.

Position in Sedimentology

The Geosciences programme at the Faculty of Science, Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) invites applications for the post of Assistant Professor/Senior Assistant Professor/Associate Professor/Professor in the field of Sedimentology. Applicants should have a PhD in Geology or Petroleum Geoscience or related disciplines from a recognized University. Applicants should demonstrate a track record of publishing scholastic journal articles with outstanding research and teaching excellence. The successful applicant should be a specialist in Sedimentology with sufficient exposure to oil and gas field related study. He/she is expected to teach at both undergraduate (Geosciences) and post-graduate (MSc Petroleum Geoscience by Coursework) levels, develop and participate in field courses, conduct high level research in his/her specialized areas and supervise MSc and PhD students. Petroleum industry experience is preferable but not necessary. It is highly desirable that candidates should have experience in using Sedimentary Basin and Facies Modelling Software.

Position in Reservoir Modelling/Geomodelling

The Geosciences programme at the Faculty of Science, Universiti Brunei Darussalam UBD) is seeking to expand its teaching and research activities in the area of Reservoir Modelling/Geomodelling. As part of this effort, a new academic appointment will be made at the level of Assistant Professor/Senior Assistant Professor/Associate Professor/Professor. Applicants must have a PhD in Reservoir Modelling/Geomodelling of an oil/gas field/basin or a closely related discipline from a recognized university, and an outstanding record of research productivity and teaching excellence. Applicants should have expertise in areas such as Reservoir Modelling, Basin Analysis, Geostatistics and Production Geology/Field Development. A track record of publishing in high-impact scientific journals is highly desirable but industry experience would be an added advantage. Applicant must be able to lecture effectively on a range of subjects relates to oil and gas field geology or development. The successful candidate will be expected to teach at MSc in Petroleum Geosciences by Coursework programme and some advance modules at undergraduate level. The development and implementation of research projects related to Petroleum Exploration and Development is expected. The candidate should have readiness to supervise M.Sc and PhD students. A willingness to actively participate in the activities of the Geosciences Programme and to assist with faculty and departmental administration is also essential for the role.

  • Assistant/Senior Assistant Professor: 49,560-76,920
