 UNIVERSITI BRUNEI DARUSSALAM The Department of Petroleum Geoscience at Universiti Brunei Darussalam invites candidates for posts as: LECTURERS/SENIOR LECTURERS/ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR IN PETROLEUM GEOSCIENCE The Department was established in 1994 and is now accepting 20 students per year into its M.Sc. programme and currently has 3 Ph.D. students who are pursuing research topics in seismic interpretation, structural geology, reservoir characterization, sedimentology, and sequence stratigraphy. A new B.Sc. twinning programme in Geology and Petroleum Geology in articulation with the University of Aberdeen, UK began in August 2007 with 9 students. To fill its complement of full-time teaching staff, the Department is seeking outstanding candidates in areas of petroleum geosciences. Experience in Quantitive Seismic Interpretation, Well Log Analysis, Reservoir Geology/Characterization and Modelling would be a distinct advantage though applicants with a geology/petroleum geology background are also encouraged to apply. In addition the Department is looking for a candidate with broad experience and knowledge in Petroleum Exploration. The Posts The successful candidates will be required to contribute to the teaching of the B.Sc. and M.Sc. programmes, supervise M.Sc. and Ph.D. research and actively conduct research. They are encouraged to make full use of the Department's 7 workstations with 3D capabilities and a full suite of seismic processing, interpretation and modelling, geostatistical and petrophysical software. A spectrum of specialised reservoir characterisation software, plus ample industry data, provides outstanding potential for industry-relevant research involving integration of 3D seismic and wireline data for predicting lithology, reservoir properties and hydrocarbon distribution. Research activities should focus on the needs of Brunei and Southeast Asia. Qualifications Candidates should hold a Ph.D. and have an excellent research record. It is important that candidates have a commitment to obtaining and disseminating new knowledge to students. Petroleum industry experience is preferred but not required. Appointment at the Lecturer level offers a recently-graduated candidate an excellent opportunity to develop his or her skills. Terms and Conditions of Service Appointments are by contract for a period of 3 years and renewable by mutual agreement. Monthly basic salary will be in the range of B$2810 - B$4240 for a Lecturer, B$4600 - B$5200 for a Senior Lecturer and B$5400 for an Associate Professor, depending on qualifications and experience. In addition to the basic salary, an academic allowance will be provided (B$500 for a Lecturer, B$600 for a Senior Lecturer and B$800 for an Associate Professor). Currently, the Department has an industrial agreement that provides a 70% salary supplement from the basic salary for each staff member. Other contractual benefits include: a bonus of one month's salary after each 12 months of satisfactory service; gratuity (25% of last drawn contract salary x 36 months at the end of contract); education allowance and children's passage: subsidised housing (staff contribute B$130 per month); free government medical (including dental) services; interest-free car loan; generous paid leave; passage and removal allowance. At present there is no personal income tax in Brunei.
