Why not study petroleum geology and geophysics in Ireland and benefit from a modern interdisciplinary training delivered by leading researchers and industry specialists at University College Dublin?

Commencing September 2013, the UCD School of Geological Sciences is launching a new one-year Petroleum Geoscience MSc. The course will build on significant existing in-house research expertise in frontier exploration, rift and hyper-extended basin evolution, reservoir sedimentology, geophysical imaging techniques, fault analysis and reservoir and fluid flow modelling.

The UCD training experience will:

  • focus on problem-based learning drawing on a wide range of 'live' geophysical, subsurface, outcrop and 'behind- outcrop' datasets.
  • involve substantial field-based instruction (30 days) in classic outcrop locations (including the Clare Basin, Ireland; Wessex Basin, UK; Neogene basins, SE Spain)
  • cover all aspects of exploration, appraisal and development geoscience, both conventional and unconventional, from pore to basin scale.
  • include a three-month research project and possible industry placement.

Graduates from the course will be equipped with all the necessary technical and transferable skills for a career in the petroleum industry or further studies at PhD level. A small number of scholarships will be available on a competitive basis.

Course entry will require a minimum 2.1 Honours degree or equivalent in Geology, Geoscience, Earth Science, Geophysics or a cognate discipline.
