Applications are invited for a permanent appointment as Technical Officer (Earth Science Materials Preparation)
We seek to appoint a Technical Officer to support our teaching and research. Following a period of training, duties will involve processing (crushing, sawing, dissolution, grinding and polishing) lithified rocks, unconsolidated materials, biological and geochemical material, and include production of high quality polished and unpolished thin sections of geological and related materials for light microscopy, laser ICP-MS, SEM and other micro-beam analyses. The appointee will also be involved in preparation for and overseeing of student activities (practicals and research projects) involving geological, biological and chemical materials in laboratories. The post holder will also flexibly support field research and teaching, for example by assisting staff with sample storage and retrieval. Occasionally the role may involve working away from the campus with staff and students. The appointee will also be responsible for the maintenance of relevant laboratory equipment in various laboratories to ensure compliance with relevant regulations and a safe working environment in cooperation with UCD SIRC (Safety, Insurance, Operational Risk & Compliance Office).
95 Technical Officer_2013 Salary Scale €37,324 - €49,550 per annum
Appointment will be made on scale and in accordance with the Department of Finance guidelines
