The salary will be negotiable on the professorial scale but not less than £62,731 per annum, inclusive of London Allowance.

The Centre for Polar Observation and Modelling (CPOM) in the Department of Earth Sciences at University College London seeks candidates for a Professorial level appointment. Applicants' research should complement and strengthen the current research portfolio of CPOM (outlined below). We are seeking to appoint outstanding individuals with academic standing, vision and proven expertise who will provide leadership in their field of expertise, develop world-class research programmes and contribute to advanced teaching and knowledge exchange activities.

CPOM is a Natural Environment Research Council (NERC)-supported research centre that studies processes in the Earth's polar latitudes with regional and global implications. CPOM has world leading expertise in using satellite radar altimetry to observe the polar oceans, sea ice and the land ice and in using these measurements to better understand the physical processes occurring there. CPOM also uses theoretical and laboratory-derived understanding to form new models of interactions between the ice, ocean and atmosphere, and uses ground and satellite observations to test the predictions of these and other climate models.

Successful candidates will have an outstanding record of academic research, a strong publications portfolio, a track record of success in income generation from public and/or commercial sources, and will be able to work collaboratively with an inter-disciplinary approach.
