UC Santa Cruz / USGS Pacific Marine Science Center
Project Scientist Organic Geochemistry
Joint Organic Geochemistry Position at UC Santa Cruz / USGS Pacific Marine Science Center
We are searching for a Project Scientist (PhD level) staff scientist to support increasing organic geochemistry collaboration between USGS and UCSC labs, with applications in ongoing coastal research programs. The candidate will divide their time between the UCSC McCarthy labs, and also the shared light stable isotope facility at UCSC (UCSC-SIL; https://websites.pmc.ucsc.edu/~silab/), and organic geochemistry lab facilities (i.e., GC-MS, extraction lab) at the adjacent USGS center in Santa Cruz working with the Coastal and Marine Geology scientists and staff.
This is a unique collaborative position between the two institutions. The initial appointment will be for one year, however with expectation of extension. As described in the full ad (link below), there will likely be both research and analytical support components to the position across diverse projects, appropriate for postdoc level scientist interested in exploring the interface between academia and a national lab (USGS).
We are most interested in a candidate with background/interests in compound-specific organic stable isotope analyses, having experience in basic organic geochemical techniques (GC, HPLC, etc.) for analysis lipids, lignins, amino acids, or other compound classes. Expertise in organic geochemistry of marine systems is also a plus.
The UCSC position number is JPF00138-15T; the full job ad can be viewed, and applications submitted, at UCSC academic HR website : https://recruit.ucsc.edu/apply/JPF00421
