Postdoc in Deformation Processes and Electron Microscopy

The Department of Geology at the University of Tromsø (UiT) is looking for a motivated and qualified researcher for a 3-year postdoc position focussing on electron microscopy of deformed earth materials. The earliest starting date for the position is August 1st, 2019.

The successful candidate will carry out research on experimentally and naturally deformed rock samples in collaboration with Holger Stunitz and the Solid Earth Science research group. The experimental deformation laboratory at UiT houses 2 solid medium (Griggs-type) apparatus. The current research focusses on the interaction of deformation and mineral reactions and the brittle-viscous transition in rocks. Experimental work is carried out in collaboration with the deformation laboratories at ISTO, Université d´Orléans, France (Hugues Raimbourg, Jacques Precigout) and EAPS, MIT, U.S.A. (Matej Pec).

The department owns a Zeiss Merlin FE-SEM with EDS, WDS, EBSD, and CL detectors (AZtec system). Daily routines and maintenance of the microscope are performed by an engineer of the microscopy center. The applicants are expected to have extensive and hands-on experience with EBSD and EDS in earth materials. The successful applicant will participate in the supervision of master and PhD students.

Interested individuals should submit an application letter, a CV with a publication list, copies of degrees and diplomas, names and contact details of at least 2 referees, and a statement of research interests before June 1st, 2019 to
