POSTDOCTORAL OR POSTGRADUATE RESEARCH POSITION
Chemical Engineering, Petroleum Engineering or Related Discipline
The University of Massachusetts Lowell is seeking two Postdoctoral or Post Graduate Researchers to conduct research in the following area: creating stable emulsions of liquid and supercritical carbon dioxide with water for the purpose of geologic sequestration of CO2 and Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR). Initial work with emulsions will be with laboratory size equipment followed by scale up for pilot-scale injection of emulsions in the field.
Qualifications: Ph.D. preferred (but not required) in chemical engineering, petroleum engineering, physical chemistry, geology, geophysics or related fields, 0-2 years experience after graduation. Desirable research experience: work in high pressure gas and liquid retorts and reactors, especially work with liquid and supercritical CO2; measurement of physical properties, such as density, viscosity, surface tension, light scattering in emulsions; analysis of chemical species, such as hydrogen ions (pH), carbonate and bicarbonate ions. Desirable experience also includes knowledge of the behavior of fluids in porous media, for example, geologic sequestration of liquid or supercritical CO2. Laboratory experience handling supercritical fluids and core sampling apparatus is also desirable. Salary commensurate with experience. US citizenship, alien resident, or valid employment authorized visa required.
