Postdoctoral Position (2 years) in BiogeochemistryUmeå University - with its 29,000 students and over 4,000 employees - is an organisation in constant change and development. This position is open for experimentalists with a Ph.D in chemistry, geochemistry, biogeochemistry or related disciplines where experimental chemical methods are employed. The successful candidate will be contributing to a new project led by PIs J.-F. Boily (Department of Chemistry) and J. Klaminder (Department of Ecology and Environmental Science). This project was devised to provide a molecular scale understanding of long-term in situchemical and microbial degradation of organic matter in relation to CO2 release to the atmosphere. The project will be focused on arctic and boreal soils, and make use of a variety of experimental techniques (e.g. FTIR, TPD, XPS, respirometry). Experience in one or several of these techniques would be desirable for this position. The successful candidate will have access to excellent experimental research facilities at the Department of Chemistry, the Department of Ecology and Environmental Science, as well as the Chemical and Biological Center of Umeå University. All facilities are supported by competent scientific staff, allworking in pleasant and ergonomic working conditions. To qualify for the position you should have a PhD degree or equivalent, preferably obtained within the past three years, as well as a good to excellent command of the English language.
