Full Time Faculty Openings in Earth Sciences

Universidad de Los Andes seeks applications for three full-time faculty positions in the Department of Geosciences. Universidad de los Andes is located in central Bogotá, Colombia. It is the 5th highest ranked University in Latin America by the Times Higher Education Rankings 2019, with a student body of approximately 14,000 undergraduate students and 4,000 graduate students. The Geosciences Department currently consists of 12 full-time research and teaching faculty. Applicants are required to have a Ph.D. degree in Earth Sciences, ideally with two years of postdoctoral experience and a demonstrated ability to lead a scientific research program, and/or extensive and relevant industry experience. All candidates must have a record of significant and innovative research, documented by peer-reviewed publications, and a lifelong-learning attitude. We especially encourage applications from candidates with a strong background in environmental geosciences, surficial processes, geophysics, remote sensing, geodesy, computational geodynamics.

The successful candidate will be expected to develop and maintain a vigorous, externally funded research program, and be dedicated to high-quality and innovative undergraduate and graduate teaching. Professors are expected to create and teach courses in English or Spanish, be willing to work continuously on improving teaching skills through workshops, and peer evaluations; and supervise undergraduate, masters, and doctoral level research conducted by students. They must also contribute to the administration and growth of the Department and of the University, participate in academic reforms and teaching innovation projects, and support outreach activities. It is anticipated that appointments will be made at the Assistant Professor level; however, higher-level appointments may be considered on an individual basis for applicants with the appropriate qualifications.
