Full Time Faculty Openings in Geosciences

Universidad de Los Andes seeks applications for up to three full-time faculty positions in the Department of Geosciences. Universidad de los Andes is located in central Bogota, Colombia, which is the 4th highest ranked University in Latin America (Times Higher Education Rankings 2019), with a student body of approximately 14,000 undergraduate students and 4,000 graduate students; the Geosciences Department consists of nine full-time teaching and research faculty. The successful candidates will be expected to be dedicated to high-quality and innovative undergraduate and graduate teaching, and to obtain externally funded research projects. Professors are expected to create and teach courses in English or Spanish; be willing to work continuously on improving teaching skills through workshops and peer evaluation; and supervise undergraduate, masters, and doctoral student research. Professors will also contribute to the administration and growth of the Department and the University, participate in academic reforms, and support outreach activities. Applicants are required to have a Ph.D. in the Earth Sciences, ideally with two years postdoctoral experience. While teaching experience is not required, candidates should have an interest in, and an aptitude for, teaching at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, be willing and able to teach a range of courses from our existing program, and be willing to develop new courses. All candidates should have a significant record of research, documented by peer-reviewed publications, and/or have extensive, relevant industry experience, and a positive attitude towards lifelong-learning. We will consider excellent candidates in any area of the geosciences, but encourage applications from candidates capable of teaching theoretical and practical courses in: structural geology and tectonics, environmental geosciences(including hydrogeology, environmental geochemistry and external geodynamics), mineralogy and petrology, applied geophysics (including geoelectric and electromagnetic methods), remote sensing, geodesy and computational geodynamics. It is anticipated that appointments will be made atthe Assistant Professor level.
