The Institute of Geology and Palaeontology invites applications for the position of
Postdoctoral Student (premier assistant)
Date of start: 01.08.2012 or as soon as possible
Candidates should have a doctorate degree in Geology or Geophysics. Applications from any domain of Alpine tectonics, geodynamics, structural geology, rock deformation and numerical modeling are welcome. Experience with numerical modeling of geodynamic processes, scientific programming (Matlab, Fortran or C) and high-performance computing are an advantage. Knowledge of French is an advantage but not a requirement.
The position is geared towards recent PhD graduates, preferentially with some postdoctoral experience. The new postdoctoral researcher will be expected to: (i) perform research in lithospheric deformation, mountain building processes, Alpine tectonics and/or rock deformation using preferably mathematical models and numerical simulations, (ii) assist in teaching (e.g. joining field courses) and in supervising undergraduateand graduate-level students and (iii) play an active role in establishing the group of computational tectonics in the new Institute of Earth Science at the University of Lausanne.
At least 70% of the regular working hours will be devoted to personal research work.
