PhD position in Geophysics, mineral exploration seismics
at Geophysics Program of the Department of Earth Sciences, University of Uppsala, Sweden
The Department of Earth Sciences at Uppsala University will start coordinating and conduct research within a Europe-wide H2020 Research-Innovation-Action (RIA) project related to new exploration technologies of mineral resources. While the focus will be on geophysical instruments and methods (covering a wide range from seismic to electromagnetic methods), there are also aspects related to data (geological and geochemical) and target generations. The department is the largest and broadest as such in Sweden and includes Geophysics, Geology, Paleontology, Hydrology, Meteorology and Natural resources programs. It is located next to the Geological Survey of Sweden (SGU) and this allows a great level of interactions with the researchers from SGU.
The PhD candidate will conduct research within a series of planned topics inside and outside Sweden sponsored by the EU-H2020 project. A major component of the project involves novel reprocessing of legacy and acquisition and processing of new 2D and 3D active-passive seismic data from a few of the validation sites available to the project. The PhD candidate will also work within a larger research team including experts from different countries. Joint research work with other research institutes involved in the project is also envisaged.
Informal enquires are welcome and can be directed to Prof. Alireza Malehmir (email@example.com).
