Senior Lecturer/Lecturer in Petroleum Engineering



Qualifications/Experience

PhD or MSc in Petroleum Engineering, with a blend of academic, research and industrial experience.

Areas of Specialisation

Preference will be given to applicants with an industrial background in:

  • Drilling and Completion Well Design and Construction
  • Drilling and Workover Operations
  • Production Engineering including field development; production operations and production optimization; infrastructure design, construction and maintenance
  • HSE in upstream petroleum operations

Specific Responsibilities

The successful applicant will join a small team of academics and support staff in the fulfillment of the formal teaching, continuing education, research and industry support service programmes offered by the Department. The selected candidate will be expected to contribute in the Department's mission of maximizing and furthering the development of sustainable national capability through the Petroleum Engineering programme.

In particular, the individual will be expected to:

  • Teach in the M.Sc Petroleum Engineering Programme. Of significance is the fact that this programme was fashioned in collaboration with industry, and is accredited by the IChemE, IOM-3 and the Energy Institute of London, UK.
  • Develop and undertake departmental research activities.
  • Represent the Department at various national, regional and international conferences/workshops/seminars
  • Assist the Department/ Faculty in administrative and operational matters

Personal Attributes

The candidate must have the ability to interact positively with academic, technical and administrative staff within the Department, and within the University, as well as to interface with the very vibrant Petroleum Industry.
