Academic Opportunities (Two positions)

We seek two outstanding geoscientists to join our department and contribute to our long-term success. You must hold a PhD in geosciences, have an excellent track record as a researcher and be passionate about geosciences education. It is expected that you will establish an externally funded research programme that complements existing strengths within the department; form strong relationships with end-user organisations/stakeholders; attract and mentor graduate students; and develop and maintain strong national and international connections. You will teach across a range of general geosciences topics at undergraduate level, with opportunities for more specialised and research-focussed teaching and supervision at graduate level.

Volcanic/Geothermal Geochemist (Senior Lecturer/Associate Professor)

Volcanic/geothermal geochemist with specialist expertise in geothermal (fluid-rock interactions) and/or volcanic systems; their geochemistry, mineralogy and petrology. There are excellent opportunities to undertake research in the Taupo Volcanic Zone and to work with geothermal power and related industries, located about 1-2 hours drive from our campus. You will be expected to teach petrography and geochemistry of volcanic and geothermal systems and processes.

Sedimentary Basin Analyst (Lecturer/Senior Lecturer)

Sedimentary basin analyst with specialist expertise in seismic interpretation, sequence stratigraphy and petroleum geology, and with well-developed skills in seismic interpretation using industry-standard technology as well as familiarity with sequence stratigraphic analysis of marine sedimentary successions in outcrop. There are outstanding opportunities to undertake research in New Zealand's Cenozoic sedimentary basins that developed in active tectonic environments for which there are extensive open-file petroleum exploration data sets, and to interact with exploration companies. You will be expected teach sedimentary and petroleum geology.

Current annual salary range for Lecturers is NZ$65,886 to $80,441; Senior Lecturers is NZ$82,468 to $110,614 and Associate Professors is NZ$107,710 to $122,706.
