Associate Professor / Senior Lecturer and Lecturer Posts,
School of Geosciences, University of the Witwatersrand
The School of Geosciences at the University of the Witwatersrand invites applications from suitably-qualified candidates for 2 (TWO) tenure-track vacancies, commencing 1 January, 2014. One post is available at Associate Professor OR Senior Lecturer level, and the other at Lecturer level. The level of appointment and starting salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
Duties:
Successful candidates are expected to establish active research programmes, attract postgraduate students, contribute to scientific meetings and publish work in internationally accredited scientific journals. They will be required to teach specialist courses at undergraduate and Honours levels, and to lead appropriate student field excursions. Wherever possible, teaching duties will be matched with a candidate's research background.
Requirements: Applicants for the post of Associate Professor / Senior Lecturer in Ore Mineralisation Studies must have:
- A PhD and proven track record of academic research in ore mineralisation studies / economic geology and/or Minerals Industry-related project experience
- Good oral and written communication skills
- Experience of economic ore deposits in Africa would be regarded as a bonus
- For consideration for Associate Professor level, the candidate must be able to demonstrate excellence in research, teaching and academic citizenship activities consistent with the University's employment policy guidelines.
Applicants for the post of Lecturer in Geochemistry/Petrology must have:
- Completed all requirements for a PhD by 1 January 2014
- Research specialisation in Geochemistry/Petrology
- Good oral and written communication skills
- Experience in geochemical laboratory techniques.
