The Zentrallaboratorium für Geochronologie, Institut für Mineralogie der Universität Münster invites applications for the position of a:

The focus of this research position will be on the chemical evolution of Mars through the study of SNC meteorites using state of the art geochemical techniques and modeling. The position will be funded by the Helmholtz-Society through the Research Alliance “Planetary Evolution and Life”. The Alliance is led and managed by Institut für Planetenforschung, Deutsches Zentrum für Luft- und Raumfahrt, Berlin.

The successful candidate will have experience in - and a thorough understanding of - analytical Geochemistry and isotope Geochemistry in particular. Experience in meteorite research and high precision isotope and trace element measurements by mass spectrometry (ICP, MC-ICP, TIMS) is desirable.

The Zentrallaboratorium für Geochronologie offers the necessary infrastructure for isotope measurements on minerals and rocks, including radiogenic and heavy stable isotopes. The laboratory is equipped with clean room facilities, 2 TIMS (VG Sector 54, Triton) a multicollector-ICP-mass spectrometer (Micromass IsoProbe), and an ICP-mass spectrometer (Finnigan Element 2) with an Excimer laser (New Wave).

The initial appointment will be for two years, with the possibility of extension. The appointment requires successful completion of the PhD or equivalent degree. The position is available immediately.
