![]() Postdoc Job AnnouncementThe University of Wyoming (UW) invites applications for 3 postdoctoral positions in a DOE-funded research project on carbon sequestration in southwestern Wyoming. Each position (details below) starts Sept. 1, 2008 with an annual stipend of $48,000 plus benefits. The project is funded for 1 year. Multiple PIs from UW Departments of Geology and Petroleum Engineering are funded. Besides working with supervising faculty, the postdocs will have excellent opportunities to interact with others who study the same site using complementary approaches. GIS Specialist: Tasks include compilation of hydrocarbon well data (location, depth, formations penetrated, completion status) and available well logs into a GIS database. Interested candidates should send an application to Dr. James Myers at magma@uwyo.edu. Structural Geologist: Tasks include using Petrel and ECLIPSE software to 1) conduct analysis of seismic and well log data to create a three-dimensional subsurface model; 2) generate structure contour maps and fault network model for the sequestration horizons; 3) determine fracture density/orientation within the storage reservoirs and sealing horizons using core, FMI logs, and outcrops. Interested candidates should send an application to Dr. Erin Campbell-Stone at erincs@uwyo.edu. Numerical Modeler: Tasks include using Petrel and ECLIPSE software to 1) create three-dimensional earth models using geological characterization and numerical upscaling; 2) conduct simulations to generate prediction envelopes of CO2 migration. Experience in building/simulating numerical models is required. Programming skill is desired. Knowledge in integrating geological/engineering data types is a plus. This particular position is funded for 2 years. Interested candidates should send an application to Dr. Ye Zhang at yzhang9@uwyo.edu The application should include a CV, a one-page statement of interest, and names and contact information of three references. Application review begins immediately and will continue until the position is filled. Responses received by Aug., 2008 will be given priority consideration. UW is an affirmative action/equal-opportunity employer. |
