School of Engineering, Mathematics and Physical Sciences
Lecturer in Geotechnical Engineering
Cornwall Campus
(Ref: T02N1995)
Salary: £31,671 to £38,951 per annum
The College of Engineering, Mathematics and Physical Sciences is an academic and industrially-linked college that has undergone a major expansion of its activities. In the latest Research Assessment Exercise (RAE 2008) 95% of research from the College has been classified as being of international quality.
Camborne School of Mines has been training mining engineers since 1888 and today offers a unique combination of expertise in geology, mining, minerals engineering and renewable energy. Following its incorporation into the University of Exeter in 1993 and its more recent relocation to a new, state-of-the-art campus near Falmouth, Cornwall, the Camborne School of Mines has continued to build on its international reputation for the quality of its research and teaching.
You will have strong research interests in aspects of rock mechanics/geotechnical engineering/engineering geology related to the extractive industries, geothermal energy, civil engineering or contaminated land and will be able to make a significant contribution to the multi-disciplinary research within the Camborne School of Mines and College. Current research includes remote scanning of rock masses, numerical modelling of rock mass behaviour, coastal and other slope risk assessment, material characterisation and practical implementation of responsible mining. Research in new or related areas will be encouraged.
We would expect you to have a teaching load commensurate with the maintenance of your research programme. You should have a relevant higher degree and be committed to pursuing high quality research alongside teaching across a range of programmes at both undergraduate and postgraduate level. Details of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes and modules can be found on the internet at http://www.uec.ac.uk/csm/undergraduate-study.htm and http://www.uec.ac.uk/csm/postgraduate-study/index.htm respectively.
Appointments will be made within the salary range £31,671 - £35,646 per annum depending on skills, experience and knowledge, with access to further contribution points rising to £38,951 subject to performance in the role.
