PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: BSc and MSc or PhD in either Geology, Engineering Geology, Geotechnical Engineering or Civil Engineering, with Chartered status
PREVIOUS PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE: 10 to 15 years

ROLE:

FWS Consultants Ltd is an established UK Geological and Environmental Consultancy, engaged in geo-environmental engineering, minerals exploration and mining. Our Geotechnical and Environmental Team provides a broad range of design and construction management services to clients over a diverse range of market sectors including residential, commercial, industrial development, waste management, mining and minerals extraction.

An experienced, innovative and commercially aware Engineering Geologist or Geotechnical Engineer is required to assist in expanding and developing the geo-environmental engineering services in Scotland from our office in East Kilbride. The candidate is to have an aptitude in business development, a high level of ability in project management, report writing, and design experience in construction and land reclamation.

MANAGERIAL CAPABILITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

This senior management position for the East Kilbride Office will assist in the management and development of geo-environmental services in Scotland. This position will entail a significant managerial role within the Company and, as such, the candidate should have the following managerial capabilities:

  • Planning, budgeting and financial management at project and company level.
  • Preparation of proposals and consortium bids.
  • Undertaking a managerial role to expand, develop and sustain the budgetary, technical output and performance of the geotechnical and geo-environmental services, with experience and knowledge of the Scottish market.
  • Client management and progressing marketing initiatives within Scotland.
  • Quality management and approving the technical output of projects and initiating procedures to monitor and ensure that the technical and professional standard of output meets with current guidance and regulations.
  • Team leadership, staff training, management and development.
  • Acting as a technical expert both to clients and regulators.

TECHNICAL CAPABILITIES

Candidates should be able to demonstrate an understanding and capability in a number of the following areas:

  • Design, coordination and reporting on geotechnical / environmental investigations, to provide engineering designs for earthworks, foundations, slopes, retaining walls, ground improvement, waste management and reclamation of derelict land.
  • Contract management of site investigations, ground engineering, earthworks and land reclamation.
  • Directing and checking detailed geotechnical and environmental design calculations and assessments utilising, where appropriate, computer software packages such as: - CONSIM, MODFLOW, RBCA, SLOPE, VDSP, STAWAL, WALLOP.
  • Preparation of design specifications, contract documentation and interpretative reports to current design standards.
  • Full driving licence.
