QHSE Coordinator



The GEMS International Group of Companies is an international business with offices in Bath and Devizes (UK), Zeebrugge (Belgium), Nigeria, United Arab Emirates, Qatar and Egypt. It has a pool of personnel and equipment and a fleet of seven vessels to provide geotechnical, geophysical, hydrographic and metocean systems and services in support of coastal and offshore engineering, protection of the marine environment and management of marine resources.

Geotechnical Engineering and Marine Surveys Ltd. (GEMS), part of the GEMS International Group of Companies, is based in Bath, UK and is primarily concerned with offshore site investigation and foundation engineering.

We are currently seeking a QHSE Coordinator, who will report to the Managing Director and the Group QHSE Manager. The role will be predominantly office based, although short term deployments overseas and to vessels during site investigation work are to be expected. It is very important for the individual to be able to clearly communicate to company staff and other stakeholders and to provide guidance and advice to ensure a consistent and safe operation that is compliant with current QHSE standards and legislative requirements.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

  • To act as the Health and Safety Competent Person and as a focal point for QHSE matters at a local level, promoting and communicating QHSE advances and good practices
  • To bring to the attention of management changes in QHSE requirements, either legislative or other and any legislative breaches or non conformities occurring in GEMS' activities
  • To have a working knowledge of the objectives and contents of IMS documentation and to assist with the provision, review and amendment of IMS documentation including QHSE Risk Assessments
  • To take part in the Auditing and review processes and to co-ordinate the progression of investigations and any actions arising (including on and from GEMS owned and chartered vessels)
  • To assist in the internal QHSE training process
  • To be prepared to travel to other sites (including vessels), should the need arise
  • To assist with offshore QHSE matters on GEMS owned and chartered vessels as and when required

Ideally at least 5 years experience and /or recognised qualification(s) in quality/health/safety/environment, and/or auditing. Experience and / or recognised qualification(s) in maritime matters would be advantageous.
