The Geological Survey of Finland (GTK) is one of the leading geosciences research centers in Europe. We are seeking a skilled, collaborative-minded and enthusiastic Senior Specialist who wants to promote our know-how and project activities related to engineering geology and land use, with a particular focus on geo-scientific 3D-modelling of urban areas and built environments. The main task is to model geo-scientific data (e.g., geological, geophysical, geotechnical, rock mechanical and hydrogeological data) to be integrated in engineering geological models, building information models, and urban land use planning in general. The aim is to promote sustainable land use planning, infrastructural design, tunneling and construction. Co-operation with a variety of private and public stakeholders is important. The results should create new know-how, innovations and customer-oriented applications. The Senior Specialist should have the motivation and capacity to initiate, prepare and lead national and international R&I projects, and to take part in competence development at GTK.
We expect the applicant to have a minimum of an M.Sc. degree in geology or other relevant branch of geosciences, and to be highly motivated and experienced. A good track record in R&I or other type of project activities relevant to engineering geology is an advantage. Proven good personal networks with research and other stakeholder groups within universities, research institutes, and the public and private sectors are desirable. We expect the applicant to demonstrate an ability to attract external funding. Project experience in cooperation with the private sector is highly appreciated. Special emphasis is placed on collaborative skills and the ability to initiate and lead research projects with partners, as well as on the ability to take part in competence development at GTK. Fluency in English is the minimum language requirement.
The position has a fixed term of five years, with the possibility of being extended, and it is located at our Espoo office. We offer a good research infrastructure with skilled, internationally oriented and highly trained personnel.
The benefits of the job include a working week of 36 hours with daily flexibility, generous annual holidays and a healthcare and pension plan. Beginning salary will be between 3 780-4 540 euros/month depending on experience and qualifications.
