Geoenvironmental Engineer




IDG are currently expanding our team of engineers in our northeast office based at Aske Hall near Richmond, North Yorkshire. The ideal candidate will have a good geoscience degree, an M.Sc. in an engineering-related discipline and three to five years' relevant experience in the UK.

As a Geoenvironmental Engineer your duties and responsibilities will include:

  • Preparation of preliminary (desk study) reports.
  • Preparation of health and safety risk assessments and methods statements.
  • Supervision of site works including trial pitting, window-sampling and cable percussion boreholes.
  • Supervision of rotary drilling and shallow mineworkings investigations.
  • Logging of soils and rock to BS5930/Eurocode 7 and preparation of exploratory hole logs.
  • Obtaining and scheduling geotechnical and contamination samples.
  • Undertaking gas and groundwater monitoring.
  • Assessing chemical and geotechnical laboratory test results and conducting risk assessments using UK-standard methodologies.
  • Preparation of factual and interpretative investigation reports.
  • Attending active construction sites to monitor and supervise construction and remediation works.

We require the successful candidate to possess the following attributes:

  • Be able to communicate competently and effectively, both verbally and in writing, with colleagues, our clients and regulatory authorities.
  • Have a full UK driving licence and access to a car.
  • Have strong IT skills including office software and CAD packages.
  • Being able to work independently where appropriate and contribute to the requirements of your team.
  • Be located within a reasonable travelling distance of your office and be willing, on occasion, to work away from home.
