Monash University seeks an outstanding candidate to be the Foundation Professor (or Associate Professor) of Urban Planning and Design within the Department of Architecture, in the Faculty of Art Design and Architecture (MADA). MADA is a vibrant centre of creative practice, enriching the human experience through transformational design and visual practice. It encourages connections between art, design, architecture, and now urban planning, through design-based teaching, research and traditional scholarship as well as integrating with other disciplines to solve emerging societal challenges.
As Program Director, you will set and deliver the strategy for the discipline of urban planning within an interdisciplinary context at MADA. You will establish complementary academic and research programs in order to develop a distinct profile, with impact on the local and global planning environment.

The course will be locally and internationally networked within a broad community of practitioners, educators and researchers. The MADA program extends traditional planning education with an understanding of integrative design practices to shape our cities to the evolving culture, economy and climate.
The position forms part of the leadership team of the Department of Architecture, and is expected to work closely with colleagues to advance MADA disciplines within the University and externally.
Candidates will have a PhD or equivalent higher degree in urban design, urban planning, architecture landscape architecture or a related planning field or, in exceptional circumstances, demonstration of equivalence through research-based practice, accompanied by a strong vision for urban planning and design education and practice and research excellence.
The appointment will be made at a level appropriate to the successful candidate's qualifications and experience and will be on a continuing basis. It will include the role of Program Director for a period of up to five years with the opportunity for renewal.
A competitive remuneration package will be negotiable for an outstanding candidate at Level E. Appointment at Level D will attract remuneration within the range $AUD158,900 to $AUD175,050, including 17% superannuation. Relocation travel, removal allowance and salary packaging are available.
