Professor of Civil Engineering (hydrology et hydraulics)

Duties

The Department of Applied Sciences of the ‘Université du Québec à Chicoutimi’ is searching for a professor of hydrology and hydraulics. Teaching activities will be related to these domains for students in civil and geological engineering. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to teach both at the undergraduate and graduate levels. In addition, the new member of our department will be expected to develop a research program in the field of hydrology and hydraulics and contribute to the training of MSc and PhD students.

Of particular interest to us are fields of expertise in hydrology and hydraulics that cover various aspects of water resources including the analysis and design of installations and systems in hydrology and hydraulics; major systems for water supply and treatment, risk management, particularly of shorelines and riverbanks; surface and subsurface hydraulic phenomena, including water movements between underground reservoirs and the surface.

The post involves teaching both undergraduate and graduate courses.

Requirements

The candidate must:

  • have a PhD in civil engineering, environmental engineering, geological engineering, or a related discipline, OR in exceptional cases, have a master degree in engineering or similar subjects and at least 3 years of experience in the fields listed above, and to wish to develop research activities funded by grants and/or contracts;
  • have suitable skills in research and university education
  • formulate a plan to become a member of the ‘Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec’ or another association of professional engineers in Canada, unless the candidate is not already a member. The candidate will have to meet this obligation before renewal of the contract leading to tenure.
  • show a sufficient knowledge of French to give bachelor’s courses in this language. Failing this, the candidate will have to formulate a plan to meet this obligation before renewal of the contract leading to tenure.

An aptitude for multidisciplinary teamwork, as well as academic training and research, are also important assets.

Remuneration

Remuneration will depend on the candidate’s experience and qualifications.

Work conditions

Work conditions are defined by the collective agreement between UQAC and the professors’ union.

Place of work

The place of work is Chicoutimi and, on occasion, satellite study centres in other towns.

Start of contract 1st August, 2010

In accordance with Canadian Immigration Regulations, first preference will be given to Canadian citizens and permanent residents of Canada, but all qualified candidates are encouraged to reply.

The language of work at UQAC is French.
