Environmental Geology MSc



This course focuses on the application of geology in engineering, hydrogeology and the environment and will enhance your professional qualifications. You will enjoy the challenge of applied geology or be looking for a change in career emphasis. You will be a graduate in geology, environmental science, civil engineering, physical geography, related subject areas, and/or relevant industrial experience.

Particular attention is paid to a holistic approach to geology applied to engineering and environmental projects. Modules include Field and Core characterisation, Geohazards, Environmental Geology, Professional Practice and Hydrogeology. Additional modules can be taken from areas such as Civil Engineering, Water and Environmental Management, Environmental Assessment and GIS. The course is informed throughout by our research and consultancy activity and strong links with industry.

This course will enable you to use applications of geology in engineering, geotechnics, construction, hydrogeology and environmental investigations. There are employment opportunities in civil engineering consultants, water companies, and local or national government bodies. For those with accredited first degrees this course is approved as, Further Learning for Chartered Engineer by the Institution of Civil Engineers.
