MSc Water and Environmental Management

The impact of modern society and climate change on water resources continues to present new challenges to local and national governments worldwide. The MSc Water and Environmental Management aims to develop technical and managerial skills relating to the understanding of water resources management and related environmental issues.

The course may be pursued on either a full-time or part-time basis and would be suitable for graduates in engineering, environmental science, physical geography or any related discipline. Core compulsory modules, which must be taken by all students, include:

  • water resource management
  • water treatment technology
  • wastewater treatment technology
  • water quality analysis
  • quantitative techniques
  • plus a dissertation.
Students select two optional modules, from a list including hydrogeology, cost and financial management, environmental impact assessment, ecological principles and GIS.

Graduates are well equipped to apply for jobs with civil engineering consultants, water companies, local or national government bodies, as well as equivalent bodies overseas. This course is approved as Further Learning for Chartered Engineer by the Institution of Civil Engineers.
