Senior Structural Engineer



South East; Surrey

A multidisciplinary consultancy is looking for a Senior Structural Engineer who should be able to drive to various locations in the UK and Survey and Inspect at level and at layout.

Applicants should have the following skills, experience and/or qualifications:

  • IEng/CEng member of the Institute of Structural Engineers
  • Minimum of 5 years experience in Structural Engineering
  • Minimum of 5 years experience using computer aided design (CAD)
  • Minimum of 5 years experience in Structural Steelwork Detailing and RC Detailing
  • Comprehensive understanding of Health & Safety and CDM requirements for design
  • Experience of using IT packages including the internet and sending/receiving e-mails
  • Experience of managing and developing Engineers and Technicians
  • Experience of attending meetings with clients and colleagues

It would also be desirable if you had the following qualifications:

  • BSc Degree
  • Chartered Engineer
  • Experience of other disciplines – Traffic, Civil Engineering or Geotechnical Engineering
  • Previous experience of working within an accredited QA system

Applicants should have the following aptitude:

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

  • Works effectively in partnerships and gains the confidence of senior managers, clients and colleagues

  • Self motivated and organised individual

  • Able to run and attend meetings on behalf of the Practice.

  • Able to produce work:

    • to agreed timescales

    • that is technically sound

    • that is professionally presented

  • Able to understand project Profit & Loss and complete projects within the fee and time available/allocated

  • Desire to develop skills in new areas of work.

  • Able to make presentations in-house and to clients.

  • Leadership and team building skills

  • Ability to manage and organise workload

  • Ability to programme work and delegate design packages to engineers and other staff

  • Able to write clear letters and technical reports

  • Able to produce conceptual designs on a variety of building types

  • Able to assist in developing skills of Engineers, Graduate/Trainee Engineers and Technicians.

The successful jobholder should be able to work flexible hours as the job demands and spend the occasional overnight stays away from home.
