Senior/Principal SurveyorMidlands; Nottinghamshire£NEGA multi disciplinary International Design and Engineering Consultancy in Nottingham is uniquely placed to offer surveying and cartographic services not only to the private sector but also to other parts of the SW Organisation, given its good geographic location. The intention is therefore to establish a topo surveying capability running out of Nottingham and one which will service the other regional SW Offices. In addition to the topo work it is the intention to progressively develop GIS and laser scanning to provide a broad base of cartographic services which will work closely with specialist disciplines within SW e.g. heritage, railways etc and on some of the major linear projects. THE ROLE Assist in the preparation of a fully costed rolling business plan for the Nottingham survey team. This plan will initially concentrate on the setting up and operation of a team of Topo surveyors operating independently out of Nottingham. It is expected that the fieldwork itself and associated CAD production will be undertaken by a dedicated team with mentoring input from yourself as necessary. Support from Ashford will be provided where appropriate. It is important that your role is developed to provide strategic growth for the unit through marketing and internal SW presentations and importantly to encompass both GIS and Laser scanning opportunities. The Nottingham team will look to you for technical guidance and mentoring and as the Senior person on site you would be expected to drive quality issues as a key performance indicator. SW owns and operates its own Laser Scanner and a number of opportunities have arisen which clearly demonstrate the high level services that it can provide.. The ability to broaden the skills base and the appointment of someone with the requisite skills and gravitas to grow scanning services will be an early challenge. Again the sourcing and appointment of someone who will report to you but also be given an opportunity to grow another service will be driven in part by you with support from the other parts of the group. The role demands someone who is degree qualified and with a professional qualification together with a strong technical background in surveying and the vision to develop services in what is an ever expanding internal market. The ability to spot an opportunity and be prepared to approach a problem with innovation and enthusiasm is a pre requisite. The role will be challenging and frustrating at times and a cheerful disposition coupled with a good sense of humour would be an advantage. A strong sense of leadership coupled with a hands on approach will be required especially in the early stages of development. A willingness to make regular presentations to SW Offices and to nurture and develop personal relationships with project managers from other groups will be necessary. A good commercial understanding of bid preparation, together with the ability to monitor and deliver projects on time and within budget. Familiarity with a range of software such as AutoCad, Microstation, LSS, Geooffice and Starnet would be advantageous.
