Overview
An individual to join the marine team to be responsible for co-ordinating,
driving and agreeing The’s marine resource management policy. This role supports
the deliverables of the Marine Management Resource System (MaRS).
The role will be responsible for managing and reviewing a wide range of
policies effecting the marine environment, and translating them into a marine
resource management policy for the Marine Team.
Working with a wide range of stakeholders, opinion formers and industry
bodies, the successful candidate will:
- Develop TCE marine management policies and advocate these policies both
within TCE and externally with key government departments and agencies.
- Undertake significant government, NGO and stakeholder liaison work. As
such, a significant amount of work will be aimed at influencing UK Government
policy and positions in relation to instruments such as the UK Marine Bill and
UK marine policy development.
- Respond to consultations on all aspects of marine policy, legislation and
management that directly influence TCE, produce reports and technical
briefings.
- Work closely with the Marine team and provide advice and briefings on the
development and implementation of marine management policy.
- Develop and manage processes and procedures to create and maintain a
marine resource management policy for the Marine Estate
- Co-ordinate internal stakeholders in agreeing and reviewing the marine
resource management policy.
- Continue relationships and dialogue with the UK government and marine
stakeholders, with the aim of building co-operative efforts to implement
objectives.

Candidate Specification
Part one
Knowledge and experience:
- First degree or equivalent (and preferably a post-graduate qualification)
in marine science, or marine environmental/conservation management.
- Extensive knowledge in marine science and a minimum of five years
experience of marine conservation/environmental management and/or policy.
Part two
Personal style, behaviour and attributes needed to undertake the post
- Able to work on own initiative to get results, plan workload and
prioritise tasks
- Ability to sell the project to people without a technical or sector
background
- Able to contribute to the efficient operation of the project. Able to
positively influence the team work.
- Able to adapt to changes in work load and positively influence the project
team.
- Well-developed interpersonal and team working skills.
- Strong team player with good project management skills.
- Self-motivated with the drive and determination to succeed.
