Research Scientist (m/f/x) for Solid Earth Modelling Job Vacancy No. 2421

Section 1.3 "Earth System-Modelling" at GFZ searches for a postdoc candidate to work in the project "Advanced Earth System Modelling Capacity (ESM)". The ESM project comprises eight members of the Helmholtz Association and aims to exceed the current standards of Earth system modelling. Section 1.3 is engaged in providing a high resolution surface-deformation module for coupling to further earth system model compartments like cryosphere and ocean as well as for reducing geodetic observables for surface-load deformations.

Your responsibilities:

  • analyis of load-induced solid-earth deformations due to surface mass-transport processes
  • modelling of deformation processes with existing numerical codes
  • improvement of processing techniques and numerical codes, especially with respect to spatial resolution and complexity

Your qualifications:

  • Master's degree and PhD in physics, geophysics or mathematics
  • advanced programming experience (e. g., Fortran, Linux)
  • experience in solving continuum-mechanics problems
  • good command of English
Starting date: as soon as possible
Fixed term: 31st December 2020
Salary: This position has been assessed as being salary group 13 according to "TVöD Bund (Tarifgebiet Ost)". The salary group will be determined by the conditions of the collective wage agreement and the appropriate personal qualifications.
Working hours: full-time (currently 39 h/week); The position is, in principle, suitable for part-time employment.
