The Institute of Coastal Research at the Helmholtz-Zentrum Geesthacht invites applications for a Geoscientist (m/f) in scientific data analysis and webtool development. The position is limited to 36 months.
The candidate is expected to conduct research within the EU funded project "European advances on climate services for coasts and seas" (ECLISEA). The research focuses on data analysis and development of a prototype for European Coastal Climate Services. Specific tasks of the researcher will include the development of a web-based information system enabling easy access to stakeholder relevant information. This requires the review of existing data and technical solutions together with the analysis of large amounts of climate data and establishing links in demand-actuated context.
Profile of qualifications:
The successful applicant will have a University degree in Geoscience, Physical Oceanography, Atmospheric Sciences or related disciplines, preferably with PhD Experiences in the development, implementation and maintenance of web-based information systems as well as the analysis of scientific data and the processing of geodata are required. Good skills in scientific programming and programming of WebGIS are expected. Experiences in coastal research and climate science are highly beneficial. The research will be carried out within an international project. Good knowledge of the English language (written and oral) as well as ability to work in an international and interdisciplinary team and willingness to travel and to present project results in international contexts are therefore required. Knowledge of Spanish and/or French language is an advantage.
