Research Scientist in Isotope Biogeochemistry (6 years)

The University of Basel invites applications for a Research Scientist position (non-tenure track) in the Aquatic and Stable Isotope Biogeochemistry working group of the Department of Environmental Sciences (Prof. Dr. M. Lehmann). We are seeking highly motivated candidates, preferably with at least two years of post-doctoral experience in stable isotope geochemistry and biogeochemical cycling of elements in aquatic systems (marine and freshwater). Potential candidates with expertise in combining isotopic (natural abundance, isotope enrichment, and/or compound-specific/biomarker) geochemical, and molecular approaches to study element cycles in pelagic and/or benthic environments on different spatial/temporal scales, and with interest to integrate experimental and field research are particularly encouraged to apply. A background in nitrogen isotope biogeochemistry (e.g., NOx, N2O) is not a requirement, but will be an asset. The successful candidate is expected to initiate his/her own research projects, as well as to join ongoing and planned multidisciplinary projects in the broader fields of stable isotope biogeochemistry. He/she is also expected to contribute to the teaching activities at the undergraduate and graduate levels.

We offer a positive working environment with high-quality research facilities (e.g., four IRMS, two QMS, three GC peripheries) and a competitive salary. The appointment will be for two years, with a possible extension up to six years, starting in November 2017 or later. A PhD degree is required.

Candidates should submit a letter of application, statement of research and teaching interests, a curriculum vitae including a list of publications, and addresses of at least two referees to Prof. Dr. Moritz Lehmann, Department of Environmental Sciences, University of Basel, Bernoullistr. 30, CH-4056 Basel, Switzerland. E-mail applications are preferred. For further information please contact Prof. Lehmann ( Review of applications will begin August 15, 2017. Applications will be considered until the position is filled.
