The British Geological Survey, (BGS) part of the Natural Environment Research Council (NERC), is the UK's premier geoscience strategic mapping and research organisation. Two vacancies have arisen for a Hydrographic Surveyor (Edinburgh) and Mechanical Design Engineer (Loanhead). Mechanical Design Engineer - £22,220 - £34,630 pay award pending This post will provide integrated design, construction and operations support for BGS and Commissioned Research projects and also undertake Project management duties associated with such work. You should have CAD skills, high mathematical ability and a good first degree in mechanical design, engineering or related field or equivalent Hydrographic Surveyor - £18,400 - £27,440 - pay award pending This post will commission, manage and operate multibeam echo sounder and associated navigational equipment, to process and archive acquired data and to provide logistics support for marine operations You should have experience of using multibeam echo sounder or similar equipment. You should possess or be working towards a qualification which meets the Standard of Competence for Category A of the International Hydrographic Organisation for Hydrographic Surveyors. Working hours will be 37 per week excluding lunch breaks.
