Opening for a   MetOcean Consultant   at BMT ARGOSS

BMT ARGOSS (www.bmtargoss.com) provides Environmental Intelligence: information about the physical environments of our planet and systems to support clients working in these environments. Our clients are offshore and coastal engineering contractors and consultants, space agencies, ship owners, charterers and operators, insurance companies, research organisations, national and local government, EU.

We work from three main offices in Marknesse, Southampton and Gdansk, and a smaller office in Aberdeen - Europe's offshore industry hub. Our activities include weather and ocean forecasting and hindcasting, Earth Observation data analysis and monitoring, climate and design criteria analysis, marine dispersion modelling, contract research and development, managed services, and on-line information services. We work closely together with our BMT colleagues on several continents and maintain close links with universities and research organisations.

The job

You will advise clients on MetOcean criteria for operability or design in seas around the world, based on your analyses of hindcast and measurement data, numerical modelling application, and judgement. You will conduct marine dispersion modelling using BMT ARGOSS's environmental software. You will contribute to the improvement of our technical capabilities, work methods and databases.

Required skills and experience

  • University degree in relevant field, e.g. Physical Oceanography, Meteorology, Ocean Engineering, Coastal Engineering, Fluid Mechanics, Mathematics or Physics.
  • Excellent numerical and analytical skills, and at least basic computing/programming skills.
  • A practical attitude and willingness to work in a team within a commercial organisation.

  • You will be based in our Aberdeen office, employed by BMT ARGOSS Ltd operating under U.K. law, but will be required to attend training in Marknesse (NL) over an extended period.
