The MARUM - Centre for Marine Environmental Sciences at the University of Bremen, is offering (under the condition of job release): Ph.D. position for 3 years

The earliest starting date is January 1st, 2019.

At MARUM Ph.D. students are supervised by a team of experienced scientists. Additional training and support are offered by the Bremen International Graduate School for Marine Sciences, GLOMAR. These offers include expert as well as skills and methods courses, coaching,networking opportunities,and the opportunity to compete for internal funds.

At MARUM, Ph.D. students acquire expert knowledge in their field and a solid background across many disciplines of marine sciences.

The Cluster of Excellence "The Ocean Floor - Earth's Uncharted Interface" is part of the Research Faculty MARUM. Within the project "RECORDER Theme 2: Feedbacks in the Earth system" the work for the position lies in the general area of paleo sea level changes.

Specific duties will include:

  • Work on specific study areas in the Indo-Pacific where Last Interglacial shorelines will be surveyed
  • Compilation of data from literature studies and analysis of model outputs to disentangle eustatic and non-eustatic sea level forcings
  • Investigate the possibility to discern Antarctic and Greenland ice melting from field records
  • Opportunity for scientific qualification in the context of a PhD degree

Your profile:

  • A completed MSc or diploma degree in geology, marine geosciences or equivalent
  • Knowledge/interest in paleo sea level changes
  • Skills in geologic field data collection and analysis
  • A good knowledge of data analysis platforms, e.g. python/matlab/R or similar
