The Cluster of Excellence “The Ocean Floor – Earth’s Uncharted Interface” is part of the Research Faculty MARUM. Within the project Ocean Floor as RECORDER, the work for the position lies in the general area of Paleoceanography/climatology – Earth System sensitivity.

Specific duties will include:

  • Conduct a research programme to enhance our understanding of general Earth System Sensitivity (time and timescale-dependent forcings and feedbacks between temperatures and greenhouse gas concentrations over long geological timescales involving long-term carbon cycle feedbacks)
  • Measurements of paleotemperatures from established and new temperature proxies (Mg/Ca, stable and clumped isotope systems).
  • Applying numerical skills to support work in the associated Earth System Modelling Enabler group.
  • Presentation of the results at international conferences and in peer-reviewed journals
  • Writing of project reports

Your profile:

  • A completed doctoral degree in Earth/Geo Sciences Geosciences or similar
  • Knowledge/interest in paleoclimatology, paleoceanography and marine biogeochemical cycles and ecosystems
  • Experience in paleoceanographic laboratory and measurement techniques
  • Strong numerical skills and familiarity with modelling methods
  • Excellent English language skills
  • Joy in working in an international and interdisciplinary team

The earliest starting date is July 1st, 2019. The position remains vacant until filled.
