Our research vessel Cefas Endeavour is a vital operational platform supporting the delivery of high quality evidence to a range of Defra Network customers and an increasing number of commercial contracts. This role is needed to provide expertise and lead on technical aspects of various projects including the RV and associated seagoing activities.

A dynamic individual is needed to be responsible for technical problem solving of marine electronics and diagnostics, providing novel solutions in a fast paced environment.

  • You will support important seagoing surveys by liaising with stakeholders as required. Technical knowledge and experience is essential for this role and you will be able to demonstrate skills and experience in these competences.
  • You will liaise effectively with a wide pool of seagoing staff and the Scientists in Charge (SIC's) to ensure the effective and efficient delivery of the surveys within the deadlines specified.
  • You will provide solutions to RV developments and technical issues, sourcing equipment and services in support of marine services.
  • You will provide advice to a wide range of staff on marine and instrumentation methods, survey design and solutions to scientific project requests, liaising with manufacturers and equipment designers as required.
  • You will promote and ensure a culture of innovation to drive forward improvements in delivery and operational matters, to ensure we continue to learn from experience and deliver a professional service to our customers.
  • You will take an active role in relation to Health and Safety, and lead on investigations to identify root causes as appropriate.

Academic qualifications required is a degree in a relevant engineering subject and experience of technical problem solving of marine electronics and diagnostics, providing novel solutions in a fast paced environment. In addition, you should meet the membership requirements of a suitable professional institution (e.g. the IET) and a graduate scientific qualification (e.g. Electronic Engineering).
