We are the Commonwealth - an association of 54 member countries around the globe who share the common values of peace, security and sustainable development. Based in central London, our Special Advisory Services Division provides advice and technical assistance to member governments in areas including trade, enterprise development, debt management and the facilitation of investment. Within the Division, the Economic and Legal Section works as a multi-disciplinary team to provide legal and policy advice to Commonwealth governments in the area of natural resources, energy and ocean governance. Following a review of its Maritime Boundaries programme, the Section has an opportunity for a senior officer to broaden the scope of the programme, while contributing to the core assistance in maritime boundaries. You must have substantial experience of dealing with ocean governance, either related to maritime boundaries delimitations, extended continental shelf, fisheries or any other ocean management related field. This experience could have been gained in a government ministry, international organisation or private sector and ideally in an international context. A post-graduate degree, a degree in Law, with law of the sea expertise, would be an advantage. You must be able to operate effectively in our multi-cultural setting and be a national of a Commonwealth country. Applications must be received by Friday, 24 September 2010.
