PhD Scholarship - Numerical Modelling of
Paleoceanography of the Cretaceous

Department of Geosciences and Natural Resource Management (DGN), Faculty of Sciences at University of Copenhagen is offering a fully funded PhD scholarship commencing July the 1st or soon thereafter. The application deadline is MAY the 23rd 2013

Project description

We seek a highly motivated candidate to work on numerical modelling of paleoceanography of the Cretaceous, with the aim of seeking a better understanding of the relation between green-house climate, ocean currents, and sediment transport/deposition in the benthic boundary layer. The work is related to the observed sedimentology of the Chalk. The project may involve modelling ocean circulation, paleoproductivity, shelf cascading, benthic storms, ocean tracers, and global coupled ocean-atmosphere climate and circulation of the mid-late Cretaceous.

The project will be carried out within the framework of Centre for Cross-disciplinary Chalk Research funded by Maersk Oil and DGN. The centre hosts five PhD students and two assistant professors in addition to the permanent staff at DGN and Maersk Oil. The ultimate aim of the research centre is to improve the qualitative and quantitative understanding of chalk depositional systems and reservoir properties.
